CRM-DSP-Mus

Mussel Tissue Certified Reference Material for Okadaic Acid and Dinophysistoxins

Diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP) is a gastrointestinal illness caused by ingestion of shellfish contaminated with toxins produced by certain strains of dinoflagellates [1]. The principal toxins associated with DSP are okadaic acid (OA) and the dinophysistoxins, DTX1 and DTX2 (Figure 1). CRM-DSP-Mus-c is a mussel tissue (Mytilus edulis) homogenate containing OA, DTX1 and DTX2. Also present in this material are domoic acid (DA) and epiDA (Figure 2), as well as acyl esters of OA and the DTXs. Tables 1 and 2 list the analytes for which certified values have been established along with their expanded uncertainties (U CRM ). Table 3 shows information values for acyl esters of the DSP toxins present while Table 4 shows information values for the individual DA and epiDA concentrations.
